Software Tips : NTFS vs. FAT32

Thinking of buying external hard disk with USB 2.0 features? Here is the one information you must read.

Although the Fat32 file system supports volumes of up to 2TB,you cannot format a volume larger than 32 gigabytes (GB) in size using the FAT32 file system under Windows XP. However, it could read and write FAT32 volumes larger than 32 GB. If you need to format a volume that is larger than 32 GB, use the NTFS file system.

Another option is to start from a Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) Startup disk and use the Format tool included on the disk. However, Using Windows 98 obviously opens up other issues - It doesn't support USB 2.0 or SATA features, perhaps with a SATA drivers. Formatting a huge disk will take ages with previous operating system.

So why bother about that

1. Apple or Mac OS X couldn't write but only can read. Get the software driver

2. In terms of performance : NTFS is High on Large volume, FAT32 is Low on high volume.
